Reading in Genesis 24 today where Abraham sends his trusted servant to fetch his daughter a wife….who (spoiler alert) turns out to be Abraham’s niece, Rebecca. Long story short, (Gen. 24:15) the servant is praying God will make it clear who he’s supposed to ask to be Isaac’s wife. Along comes Rebekah, carrying a water pitcher and does everything the servant prayed she would. She was the one. What was she doing? She was carrying a water pitcher, she was working.
When the servant lays out the details it is revealed that Isaac needs a bride, his father Abraham is old and is going to leave him everything he has and that is a lot! (Gen. 24:35) “….flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.”
One day you’re working, doing your daily chores, ho-hum, ho-hum…you have no clue that the very next day your life is going to change! This is how God works folks! You don’t know what’s around the next corner, but there’s more than you hoped or dreamed! God has plans for you. God wants to prosper you, change you, talk to you, on and on. As I read this story my hopes are getting higher. I get so caught up in this world and the way things are going I forget that each day I’m walking towards all that God has for me.
The struggles we face are blessings in disguise, each problem forces us to find the answer, each heavy burden we bear makes us stronger. When we are forced to seek help we make connections we never would have made otherwise. It’s ALL a part of the plan. But it seems like the “blah” is never going to end doesn’t it?…Then BAM! Everything changes.
“God you are good, restore our hope in you today! Help us to dare to expect from you again. Help us to praise you in the storm. To be like Job when we NEED to, to be like Rebekah when we GET to. Thank you for it all. Thank you, you are good. Thank you that we all count. Thank you.” Amen
